My Story
Hi, my name is Allison Prsa and I’m the founder of Uxbridge Seniors Downsizing.
I started Uxbridge Seniors Downsizing after the experience of helping my own senior family members transition to new living arrangements.
Not long ago my 90-year-old father-in-law, who had been in his family home for nearly 60 years since the 1960s, suddenly needed the extra care of a retirement home. My husband and I were faced with the daunting task of decluttering the home to get it ready for sale. We also needed to find a suitable retirement home to fit his budget, one that met his memory care needs. We set about interviewing real estate agents for the sale of the family home. It took several weeks to clear out the home by selling, donating, and disposing of items. Utilities were discontinued and set up at the new home. We created a loving space for him in the retirement home with furniture from the family home.
In the fall of 2021, my father passed away suddenly after a short illness, leaving my 81-year-old mother on her own. She decided to move from a multi-level townhome to an apartment condominium. To prepare her home for sale, my sister and I worked to declutter, donate, and dispose of items in the family home. After coordinating the sale of her home and the move into the apartment, my mom made a comfortable, well-organized transition to her new home.
Many seniors are fortunate to have family members close by to support them through what can be a very busy, emotional and stressful time. However, not all seniors have someone to lean on. often Families may live far away, have busy households or may not be able to assist with the transition.
